                                           EFFIGY An effigy is the representation of a person. In  some situations people burn the effigy of a person.  These kinds of acts show a clear indication of the hatred and contempt of those who burn the effigy towards the person represented by it.  This custom originated in France, where the public executioner used to hang the effigy of the criminal, if the criminal himself could not be apprehended.

CHAUVINISM : This is a kind of aggressive patriotism.  The origin of this e xpression is related to one Nicholas  Chauvin.  He was a French soldier who was deeply devoted to Napolean Bonaparte of France. His  mad devotion to the Emperor and his cause was considered an example of exaggerated bellicose  patriotism.

It is interesting to know that how the present day names, usages etc., has entered into our daily conversation. Let's look into some of this. 1 . CANNADA:  A Portuguese named Corteral sailed up the St.Lawerence. He was thinking that this place would provide a route to India. His men were very much disappointed and they cried aloud, "Cannada." The meaning of Cannada in their language means ' nothing here.' The people who were there heard this word Cannada so often that it came into common use, and later, when other Europeans arrived they were greeted with "Cannada."The natives thought that by crying out this word, the newcomers would leave as quickly as the Portuguese had done. THE DUE DROPS People want to be appreciated. It is quite natural. Do you ever appreciate anybody? Just think about it? If you don't have this habit how can you except it from others. So from today try this habit of appreciating others. And see the results! !

Thoughts about my dearest mother.

I love mother very much. She is my role model. When she was there I never thought about too much about her. But now my dearest mother is no more. She left us this month. I remember how she admonished us when I was young. She always thinks about others, and never bothered about any thing. She never asked anything from me. I still feel very sorry that I could not provide her anything when she was very much needed some help in her old age.
