POSTERS:   Before the Great Fire of London, the space for foot passengers in London was protected by rails and posts.  These rails and posts served for hanging and exhibiting theatrical placards and general  announcements.  So, gradually in course of time these announcements and placards came to be termed as posters or posting-bills.

HANSARD: The word is derived from one C.Hansard.  He used to print the official reports of the proceedings of the British parliament.  Though he is not alive today, the name Hansard is associated with the volumes containing the speeches and debates.
